Rome's Trevi Fountain is closed for construction, replaced by a temporary pool for coins tossing. A fee of $2 may be charged to manage the site's four million annual visitors and protect the historic city from overtourism. Other Mediterranean destinations are also considering visitor taxes to combat overcrowding.
