Northern Japan experienced heavy snowfall with up to 30cm in a day due to cold air interacting with warm Sea of Japan waters. Similar weather pattern caused heavy snow in parts of North America, with the Great Lakes region and the Pacific northwest facing snow and rainfall, respectively.
